holiday lights

This year seems to be the year for lights, eco-friendly holiday illuminations are all over town and I decided to do a little investigating this weekend. It was not disappointing in the least bit, but rather, worth every minute spent in the zero degree celsius weather.

First off, I went to Santa's place, with toy soldiers, a roller coaster, and...
fake snow!

Then, a trip to the marché with hot chestnuts and barbeque

 Lots of blue lights everywhere

A sneak peek of the Lady in the night

According to the newspaper, it's supposed to be the loveliest street in the world
Sorry, my blurry picture really does not do it justice, but it was quite lovely to take an evening stroll among the glowing, twinkling holiday cheer. There are still more lights and sights to see, but I don't know if I'll be able to make it to those before vacation starts and I get out of town for a couple weeks.
Happy holidays!

cliché

as found @ wordreference.com:
Pocket Oxford-Hachette French Dictionary © 2005 Oxford University Press:
cliché /kliʃe/masculine noun
  1. snapshot;
  1. cliché.

Hello! I know it's been a while, but I've been a busy little student, collecting facts, thinking, writing and organizing ideas. Let me tell, I'm exhausted. Physically, my body just wants to recover. Lay down in the fetal position and sleep for 20 hours straight. Stress is a funny monster that makes me just want to sleep, but it the end I just have crazy dreams and don't really get to rest. Lately, my brain has been looking for any kind of shortcut that it can find. This usually means (especially when speaking english, which I find completely bizarre given that it has a relatively "direct" use of words, blahblahblah) putting in words from other languages to express ideas "faster" (ie. using one word instead of three).

So, that's why I picked the word cliché, as a sort of word-of-the-day, if you will, to say, en gros, things that I've been doing over the past week and a half while I've been away from the internet. I think it's a good word.

Snapshots of life. Literally, because I'm just going to show you some pictures. Enjoy!

So, maybe the past week or so hasn't been all work. I'm really looking forward to the weekend, and it's only tuesday! Oo la la

tiny letters

I got a little surprise today in my mailbox, a very tiny one from far away...

What's that you say? Let's take a better look...

Why, it's the world's smallest letter!

It came equipped with an equally small magnify glass.

A big thanks to the friends in San Francisco that had sent this letter off to me. It was a nice little Thanksgiving day surprise! And quite impressive, I must say. The person that wrote this must have a collection of very small fine-tipped pens. Now, I have to find a safe spot where I won't lose this gem. Tiny letters mean, lots of places to get lost!

bubbles

Hello dear readers, it's been a long week, non? I've been feeling a little bogged down with work lately and haven't had a lot of time to think of fun things or be the least bit entertaining, but c'est la vie. The chances of this situation getting any better before January aren't very high. Oo la la

However, my spirits are up! I'll be getting out of town in a matter of hours for a little peace and quite, and lots of catnaps.

Here's a snapshot from last weekend, an automatic bubble-making bear that I found outside of a shop for kids. Isn't it absolutely great? I want one just like this. Maybe a little smaller? I'd put it in my front yard to make all the neighbors jealous. Ha.

Musee des Arts Decoratifs

I recently went to an exhibit called, 'Madeleine Vionnet, Puriste de la Mode' at the Decorative Arts Museum. I couldn't remember the last time I had gone to see an exhibit about clothes before then and since it's located just across the garden from school, I popped over for a little peek.

There are 130 different pieces displayed; dresses, coats, sketch books, photographs and films that illustrate the life of the designer. My favorite pieces where of course the beautiful ball gowns, but also the parts that show the patterns and how the pieces where put together.

It makes one want to get 'dressed' for the day. I think I'll get myself a fancy little something, just in case I get invited somewhere nice....sigh.

Look at that sash! Got to remember how to tie one like that.

feuilles, leaves of a book

Fall is here and I'm so glad that the world has a little more color added to it. I'd like to be able to tell you the kinds of trees that grow around here (very unnaturally, I might add), but all I've got are these pictures at the moment. It's enough for now. I'd like to do some rubbings eventually of them, like in elementary school and make a book. But something would be lost in the lack of color.

In this book that I would make, I'd be sure to mention this leaf at my front door, begging to come inside from the wind.
